How to enrol in a course at the Maritime School of the West Indies
Please read the following important information:
BEFORE PAYING, please make sure that you have contacted the school and that you have received confirmation about the course availability, date etc. from the school.
We ALWAYS have the courses going, even if we have not many people, WE HAVE NEVER CANCELLED A COURSE, but most of the times the courses are FULLY BOOKED, so contact us to see if we have space for you !
Note also that for some courses like the Master 200 Ton you need to have pre-qualifications like a minimum of 3000 nautical miles proven in a logbook, the STCW'95 / 2010 etc.
Once you have confirmation from our maritime school that you can do the course you can proceed to payment.
Unfortunately we have sometimes students not showing up for courses while others desperately need to get in.
While we apologize for the inconvenience, the following policy is in place to protect our students as well as ourselves.
A 50% deposit is required to reserve space for a course.
As most courses are limited to the number of students allowed due to various reasons, space will be awarded to those who provide the required deposit and in the order in which their deposit is received.
PLEASE BE AWARE that we CAN NOT reserve any space if we have not received a 50 % deposit !
The balance of your course payment is due 3 business days PRIOR to the course starting date unless otherwise agreed with Veerle, the school's principal !
If you are coming in from abroad you will probably be allowed to pay the balance 50% upon arriving in St.Maarten-St.Martin.
Please contact the school in advance to arrange your balance payment.
A business day is considered a weekday.
You can eventually change a course date to a future date if you are unable to follow the course on the date that you have enrolled if a one week notice is given.
However, you may not change the date of a course more than two times or you will forfeit your deposit.
You can pay a 50 % deposit in cash or by credit card in advance at the school and you will receive a discount for if you pay the total amount in cash, or if you pay the 50% deposit cash and the 50% balance of the complete amount also in cash before the course starts.
You can also pay the 50 % deposit ( or the total amount ) secure on line with credit card and pay the balance in cash at the school.
PLEASE DO NOT PAY WITH CREDIT CARD BEFORE YOU HAVE RECEIVED OUR AGREEMENT THAT YOU CAN ENROL IN A COURSE.
WE RETAIN THE RIGHT TO REFUSE STUDENTS FROM SOME COUNTRIES THAT WANT TO USE OUR SCHOOL AS A WAY TO ESCAPE THEIR COUNTRY AND ENTER ILLEGALLY HERE.
WE WILL CONTACT IMMIGRATION AND THE PROSECUTERS OFFICE IN CASE OF FRAUDULOUS E-MAIL REQUESTS OR DEPOSITS
We can also e-mail you our bank wire instructions if you prefer.
If your full payment is not received by the "balance due date" when the course starts your space will be given to students with full payment calling to book or who are on a waiting list.
Please note that for those who have paid a 50% deposit with credit card and have not paid in full for a course before the morning when a course begins and arrive in our facility to take the class, we will have to run the credit card again for the balance of the course that morning.
If the card is not accepted you will not be able to enter the course, so please pay the full amount well before the course starts.
For those paying in cash for the balance you must pay as you enter our facilities prior to the course beginning.

We retain 10% in case of cancellations more than a week prior to the course to cover administrative costs incurred by our school.
If you cancel within a week of the course date we will charge 10% and keep your money for a next time course.
WE DO NOT PAY BACK ANY CANCELLATIONS IF THEY ARE MADE WITHIN THREE BUSINESS DAYS OF THE COURSE DATE !!!.
ALL REFUNDS ON PAYMENTS PAID BY CREDIT CARD WILL BE PAID BACK BY BANK WIRE OR CHECK, NOT IN CASH, and we will deduct 10 % for administrative and bank costs involved.
Practical course dates are subject to bad weather conditions ( eventually during hurricane season ) and will not be guaranteed by the Maritime School of the West Indies.
In case of a cancellation due to the weather or other circumstances behind our control the MSWI will reschedule the course and you will not loose any amount already paid.
We have only a certain amount of space for each MSWI course, so early application is advised.
